Threads | Lovisa

Lovisa is a woven stripe from the Threads Great Stripes collection, a group of essential and decorative stripes in a modern palette. The stripe is woven in a linen and cotton blend, so it has the slub and dry handle of a natural cloth and the colour is in the yarn rather than on the surface; the bands run down the length with a 19.5 centimetre repeat across the width, a balanced, mid-scale rhythm that reads as tailored rather than rustic.

The composition is 65 per cent linen and 35 per cent cotton on a 137 centimetre width, with a 19.5 centimetre horizontal repeat and no vertical repeat. It is rated at 25,000 rubs on the Martindale test, which covers curtains, blinds, cushions and general domestic upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in two colourways, Taupe and Indigo: Taupe is the quiet, warm neutral stripe, while Indigo is the crisper blue-and-natural version.

We tend to use Lovisa for curtains in a bedroom or a study, for Roman blinds where the stripe can be seen flat, and on dining chairs or an occasional armchair where it adds structure to a room of plains. It pairs well with the Meridian Linen, with a textured weave from Quintessential Naturals on the sofa, and with the Nala Prints on cushions. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no vertical repeat, quantities are simply drop times widths, but the stripe must be matched across seams and centred on each panel, so ask your maker to plan the joins on a stripe boundary. On chairs, decide whether the stripe runs vertically or horizontally and keep it consistent across the set; line curtains to protect the linen from sun, and dry clean only.
