This handsome farmhouse is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, amongst sprawling countryside, with the most beautiful vista from the rear of the property. On entering the house it is possible to see right through the reception hallway into the existing garden room and out to the sensational garden and pool area. With double doors leading through to the large, elegant sitting room. However, our clients felt the existing style was rather too safe and obvious and wanted Tobias Oliver to challenge them with a creative and vibrant design that created that “WOW” factor on entering their home.

Designing a welcoming and functional living space for today’s family lifestyle.
As a family of five, our clients asked us to create a comfortable living space they could all enjoy together, but that really pushed the boundaries of the “norm”. For example, the existing garden room felt small and dated, however, the clients realised due to the abundance of natural light and exceptional views, this is where they would want to spend the majority of their time relaxing with family and entertaining friends, so this space needed to be completely reimagined.
Initially, our brief was to design a new orangery, but planning constraints required us to work within the existing layout. Undeterred, we transformed the space into a sophisticated adult bar and entertaining area, expertly maximising its potential and creating a stylish, functional retreat perfect for socialising and relaxation. Our colour palette was formed utilising the colour palette of the surround gardens, allowing the design to flow seamlessly from outside to indoors.
Pushing Creative Boundaries
With complete creative freedom from our clients, we seized the opportunity to craft a truly distinctive piece – an elegant bespoke octagonal ottoman. We delighted in incorporating luxurious fabric and intricate bullion fringe, infusing the space with a playful sense of sophistication.
The ottoman features a thoughtfully designed inset removable tray, perfect for gathering around and enjoying games. We thoroughly enjoyed designing the eclectic lampshades in the living room, each deliberately eccentric and echoing the subtle touches of green woven throughout the scheme. As always, meticulous planning of the lighting layout plays a vital role – here, we’ve positioned directional down-lighters to illuminate each beautifully wallpapered panel. This thoughtful arrangement creates a soft, ambient glow that gently washes over the space, enhancing its sophisticated ambiance.
This relaxed family living space masterfully balances comfort and sophistication, serving a dual purpose of everyday family life and effortless entertaining. The deep, plush sofas provide the perfect setting for cozy, relaxing evenings spent watching a movie or unwinding after a busy day. Meanwhile, the carefully curated interplay of contrasting colours creates a seamless visual connection, elegantly linking the main hallway to the newly redesigned conservatory bar area. This cohesive flow enhances the sense of openness and versatility, making the space ideal for hosting entertaining guests while still remaining warm and inviting for family gatherings.
