September is a great time to be thinking about putting the last few months behind us (thank goodness for that!) and moving towards fresh styling as we welcome Autumn into our homes.
Autumn is my favourite season as we see the stunning colours that natures presents us with as the leaves start to turn, and the natural light often feels softer and more ambient than the harsh glare of summer sun.

When it comes to our interiors, is there anything specific we can be thinking of at this time of year to introduce that cosy feeling back into our living space?
Colour: The colour of your interiors is clearly a good place to start when thinking of the overall feel of your room. If you’re looking to bring about a feeling of tranquillity then a soft, neutral green is great for smaller living rooms, as it’s a really versatile shade that seems to completely change when you combine it with different palettes. Bring out its cooler side by mixing it with steely greys or soften it up with creams and even light pinks.

As predicted in our Interior Trends for 2020 blog, back at the beginning of the year, the Pantone colour ‘Classic Blue’ has really stood out as one of the strongest colour choices this year – good job it’s called ‘Classic Blue’ really! Clean and sophisticated, this colour is so uplifting that it’s perfect in any part of the home.
However, if you’re not looking to redecorate right now, then Autumn can be the perfect time of year to inject a feeling of glamour and intimacy which is easily achieved with accessories.
We love the Vitrail candles from Baobab collection to add a level of sophistication and of course a heavenly scent to your home. They come in the Silver, as seen here, but there is also a Gold range to be seen on our website.
Texture: Texture has been another huge 2020 trend and adds interest and another dimension to all rooms. We love layering up different textures in the same, or very similar colours. For example, these gorgeous Oyuna cushions work perfectly with the Jura reversible lambswool angora throw.
This is perfect if you are big on neutrals and need to find different ways to decorate your rooms without using too many colours.
Or if you are looking to add a splash of colour or contrast these cushions designed by Mae Engelgeer, from FEST, are a really affordable way to update your design scheme. Thanks to the double-sided design, you will get two different looks in one go! The cushions have a stylish gold-coloured zip and are filled with RDS-certified European duck feathers.
In a living room or bedrooms, cushions and blankets are an obvious way of doing this but in other rooms, bringing in textures with plants, prints and well curated knick knacks works beautifully.
Animal Print: Our favourite animal prints in fashion are still going strong in the home. It adds a sense of adventure, diversity and glamour to your interior in a way that few other looks do. Whether its Zebra, leopard, tiger or snake using animal print is a choice that requires some courage, but it can also be toned down to behave as more as an accent, but as soon as it’s noticed, it sings vibrancy and interest. It’s often a good idea to start small, adding accents in the form of soft furnishings and a few, small accessories; then, if you love it you can go further if you wish!
These stunning leopard and crocodile coasters are a great way to introduce a hint of leopard and in black and gold are the epitome of cool for any bar area or living room.
Retro: With warmer autumnal colours, like oranges, yellows, and rusty reds rising up between the greige, alongside terrazzo, leopard print, and fringing, it’s all feeling a little retro – but dare we say slightly cooler this time around!?Honestly, if this limited edition Gold Lynda from the uber trendy Haas brothers collaboration with L’objet isn’t the coolest thing ever, then we don’t know what is!
Home bar: The home bar trend isn’t going anywhere fast with Covid still on our heels. Although lockdown restrictions have eased up a little, a home bar is still a must in every home this year and beyond.
This very stylish “Jigger and Fausto” set, (pictured above) by Aerin, is a great addition to your bar. Margarita anyone??
Indoors, this is a practical and very Gatsby-like addition, however if you want something that feels more like a beach club, this is entirely possible …although you may never want to frequent the local pub again!

Check out this home bar terrace we designed at a villa in Portugal. The Ibiza style daybed is perfect for those sundowners and we also installed a fully functioning sky bar, with fridge, sink and dishwasher.
For the central dining space we injected some colour with beautiful cushions. We installed boundary planting to bring the lush garden vibe up onto the roof. There is also a separate BBQ area installed for the roof terrace and a further daybed on top of the villa, accessed by some secret steps.
Hopefully a source of inspiration if we are lucky enough to get an Indian Summer this year!
If you haven’t been lucky enough to get away this summer .. yeh, thanks COVID! then take some travel style inspiration from our brand new range of Assouline books, the perfect accessory for any coffee table.
