Decorex International

Good Morning everyone! Yesterday I visited Decorex International – Britain’s largest interior design exhibition. Now in its 39th year, Decorex has built a high reputation for a comprehensive and up to date collection of exhibitors. There is very diverse amount of products showcasing the breadth of the interior design industry.

I have been visiting Decorex, and similar shows, for the past 15 years and always look forward to seeing how suppliers and craftsmen are evolving their ideas and designs. This brings interior designers innovative and exciting ways to offer our clients truly unique designs.

The variety of products is enormous – however I would like to share with you a selection of furniture, lighting, finishes and materials featured at the show…

Let’s begin with this ceiling light fitting by CTO Lighting. This is a new design that CTO have created specially for Decorex – showcasing their innovative use of glass. I could see this hanging beautifully in an entrance hallway over a centre-table – what a stunning first impression that would be.

Continuing the theme of lighting; Kaia Lighting showcased this light fitting on their stall. Simple, yet sculptural in its design; there are several areas to a home this could be used. I would love to see it above a central island in a kitchen or above a dining table. Or possibly even the pendants in the image below, also by Kaia Lighting.

In the next image we see a dining table top finished in a hand-cast resin finish by Officina Coppola. The applications of this finish are not limited to just table tops – they could be applied to doors, any type of furniture – or perhaps even a standout piece of art work themselves. See the image below for further examples of the finishes they offer.

Minimo attracted a lot of attention this year with this stunning Buffet. Finished in polished brass inlay with a blue sycamore veneer.

Some of you might recall a recent blog entry I wrote on Cabinetry. Interior-iD are a high-end cabinetmakers based in Notting Hill. I have worked with interior-iD on a number of projects and I am used to seeing their beautiful craftsmanship. However, their display at Decorex demonstrates the impeccable attention to detail the carry out in their craftsmanship. The images below show a section of wardrobe – finished with polished nickel inlay and a high gloss sycamore veneer. The leather interior and lighting details display the quality of their expertise.

At this Decorex, The Sofa and Chair Company exhibited for their first time. Their furniture making and upholstery skill was clearly demonstrated, with a few new pieces added to their range. They also exhibited a prototype swivel barstool – an absolutely stunning shape!

At every Interior Design Exhibition I hope to find something truly special and unique. This year Goldcrest of London delivered this item in the form of a bedside cabinet. I love the use of material – a very clever way of combining a rustic timber with a contemporary metal finish.

Julian Chichester never fails to disappoint. I love this standout buffet unit – perfect for a retro-modern electic interior.
