Decorex 2023: A Celebration of Luxurious Design and Craftsmanship

This week the Tobias Oliver design team took our annual visit to Decorex, hosted at the iconic Olympia exhibition centre. Decorex is “A key date in the autumn design calendar”, described by House & Garden, providing the prime “destination to discover unique products and collection launches”, claims The English Home. It is undeniable that there is a buzz surrounding Decorex, as it unites the best in the industry, and the TOI team can confirm that this unforgettable showcase of interior design certainly continued its legacy of excellence.

The fact that Decorex is hosted at Olympia adds an extra layer of grandeur to the event. This legendary exhibition centre has a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century, witnessing a plethora of iconic events. Its breathtaking architecture and fruitful history resonate with the luxury and elegance that the exhibitors bring. This, combined with the building’s extensive event space, provides the perfect backdrop for an event of Decorex’s prestige, hosting over 80 speakers within the interior sphere.

Stepping into Olympia, the TOI team could immediately sense the magic in the air as the space transformed into a haven of design innovation and exquisite craftsmanship. While its challenging to pinpoint just a few standouts, certain trends and themes especially stood out to the TOI design team.

Echoing global sentiments – sustainable design practices and eco-friendly materials were prevalent. Designers showcased how luxury doesn’t have to come at the expense of the environment. For example, EPOC, Tobias Oliver Interiors’ go to supplier for handcrafted beds and mattresses, have recently launched their White Edition sustainable mattress which the TOI team quickly spotted! All of EPOC’s materials are sourced from sustainable sources, and 100% of all mattresses disposed of, avoid landfill. This is just one of the many reasons TOI love to use EPOC’s products, so it was great to see their new launch at Decorex, which we are soon to be installing in one project!

A revival in Art Deco design styles especially stood out to the TOI team. A nod to the opulence of the 1920s, many exhibitors drew inspiration from the Art Deco movement, blending it seamlessly with modern elements to create timeless pieces. The TOI design team fell in love with a home bar that was infused with Art Deco styles and themes, by HUX Bespoke Kitchens and Joinery. The fluted glass cabinetry and Verde Fantastico marble shelving really elevated the space into a luxury room for entertaining.

Decorex 2023 went beyond just showcasing products – the lineup of industry-leading speakers was testament to the events commitment to nurturing knowledge and fostering discussion. Topics ranged from the future of interior design, technological innovations in the sector, to the evolving tastes of luxury consumers.

One of our main purposes for taking a day out of the office to visit Decorex is to specify unique and bespoke products to perfect our upcoming projects – it was certainly a productive day in this sense! We came across a beautiful two-tiered coffee table by Demuro Das for a current project in Harpenden. The TOI design team thought the leathered white quartz tabletop would sit perfectly within the natural tones of this luxury reception room.

Armac Martin is another one of TOI’s regulars for cabinetry handles, so we headed straight to their exhibition stand where we found the perfect bamboo-inspired handle for a Balinese themed bathroom. This unique yet elegant design will provide this space with the attention to detail that TOI are always so determined to perfect.

After working our way through all the exhibitors, we finished the day with a delicious lunch at Jacuzzi, a restaurant recommended to us by a supplier and friend who we bumped into at Decorex! One of the most valuable aspects of attending Decorex is the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and industry professionals.
